Our focus in the shop is shifting toward early-season gear arrivals, custom bootfitting, and technical preparation for the months ahead. Here is the latest update on opening schedules, long-range weather projections, mountain access, and essential pre-season equipment prep.
Target Opening Date
Mammoth Mountain has set its target Opening Day for Friday, November 13, 2026 (weather and snowmaking conditions permitting). Early-season operations will initially focus on Broadway Express (Chair 1) and the surrounding base area as cold autumn nights allow snowmaking crews to build a solid foundation.
Winter Weather Outlook: What the Experts Predict
Long-range forecasters and meteorologists are paying close attention to tropical ocean patterns that could shape the Sierra Nevada this winter:

Developing El Niño: Climate prediction models indicate a high probability of an El Niño pattern taking hold heading into the fall and winter months.

The Sierra Impact: Historically, Mammoth often experiences high-volume storm cycles and heavy seasonal snowfall totals during strong El Niño patterns.

Elevation Advantage: While El Niño patterns can occasionally bring warmer, moisture-heavy storms to coastal regions, Mammoth’s base elevation of 8,900 feet, and a summit exceeding 11,000 feet, positions the mountain to capture cold snowfall where lower-elevation resorts face mixed precipitation.

Securing access early remains the most cost-effective way to plan your season.

Ikon Pass: The 2026/27 Ikon Pass offers full access to Mammoth, as well as nearby June Mountain. Tiered pricing increases closer to the season, so locking in passes early is recommended.
