Standard vs. Perfect Turn Rental Gear: Which Package Is Right for Your Day on the Mountain?

If you have ever wondered, "What is the difference between the Standard and Perfect Turn rental packages?" you are in the right spot.  It is one of the most common questions we get at Footloose Sports. Skiers want to know what they are paying for, how the equipment actually differs underfoot, and whether upgrading will make a noticeable impact on their day.

We believe in complete transparency so you can make the absolute best choice for your budget, skill level, and goals on the mountain. Here is a breakdown of the exact differences between our Standard and Perfect Turn ski and boot packages.

The Core Difference: Construction & Terrain Capability

At a glance, ski equipment might all look relatively similar, but the magic (and performance) happens inside the core and along the edges.

  • Standard Rental Gear is built specifically around ease of use, forgiveness, and rapid skill progression. It features softer flex patterns and narrower waists designed to help newer skiers initiate turns effortlessly on groomed runs without catching an edge.
  • Perfect Turn Rental Gear introduces higher-end construction materials—like carbon-reinforced wood cores and full sidewalls—along with wider waist dimensions. This package delivers superior edge grip, enhanced stability at higher speeds, and smoother handling in variable snow or afternoon chop.

Adult Ski Packages Compared

Standard Package: Head Ambition & Ambition Pro

Our Standard adult lineup centers around the Head Ambition series, featuring a nimble 78mm waist width (typically 128mm tip / 78mm waist / 110mm tail). Designed specifically for Type 1 and Type 2 skiers who stick primarily to frontside groomed trails, these skis focus on making turn initiation as forgiving as possible.

  • Head Ambition: Built with a composite foam core, making it soft, lightweight, and ultra-approachable. It allows developing skiers to hone their technique without punishing small balance mistakes.
  • Head Ambition Pro: Upgrades to a light wood core structure, adding a notch of torsional stability and dampness while retaining the forgiving Tip Rocker profile for smooth pivoting.

Perfect Turn Package: Nordica All-Drive 84

When you step up to the Perfect Turn package, you move to the Nordica All-Drive 84. Featuring an 84mm waist width (136mm tip / 84mm waist / 114mm tail) paired with an All-Mountain Rocker profile, this setup expands where and how comfortably you can ski.

  • Construction: Full sidewall construction with a carbon-reinforced wood core provides direct power transmission to your edges.
  • On-Snow Feel: The wider waist floats over afternoon slush, cuts through chopped-up snow, and holds a strong edge on firm morning corduroy.
  • Who It's For: Ideal for progressing skiers moving away from basic rental performance, as well as intermediate skiers who want a predictable, confidence-inspiring ride anywhere on the frontside.

Youth Ski Packages Compared

Kids progress fast, and putting them on the right equipment makes a massive difference in keeping their legs fresh and their smiles big.

Youth Standard: Head Supershape

Featuring a narrow 67mm waist width (111mm tip / 67mm waist / 96mm tail) and a soft foam core, the Head Supershape is designed for Type 1 and Type 2 junior skiers. It offers a lightweight, catch-free feel that helps younger skiers master basic carving and control on green and light blue runs.

Youth Perfect Turn: Rossignol EXP Pro & Rossignol Trixie

Our Youth Perfect Turn offerings cater to kids who are exploring more of the mountain, testing out the park, or simply skiing faster or on steeper terrain (Type 1 through Type 3 skiers).

  • Rossignol EXP Pro Experience (67mm waist): Built with a lightweight basalt/HD composite core and tip rocker. It allows developing kids to turn effortlessly without tiring out their legs, supported by lightweight Look KidsX or Xpress 7 GW bindings.
  • Rossignol Trixie (80mm waist): A versatile, all-mountain and freestyle ski built with a poplar wood core, fiberglass reinforcement, and a Rossitop cap for chip resistance. With an 80mm waist, oversized sidecut, and tip/tail rocker, it delivers real energy, edge grip, and soft-snow flotation for active junior skiers exploring terrain parks or all-mountain trails.

How to Decide: Which Package Should You Rent?

Choose the Standard Package if:

  • You are skiing for the first time or still mastering linked carved turns on green runs.
  • You prefer sticking strictly to freshly groomed trails at moderate speeds.
  • You want a light, forgiving setup that requires minimal physical exertion to pivot.

Choose the Perfect Turn Package if:

  • You want to venture beyond basic groomed trails into chopped snow or light powder.
  • You find that basic rental skis feel chatter-prone or unstable when you gain speed.
  • You are looking to build confidence on steeper blue or black runs and want precise edge response underfoot.
